Bathroom First Room to Renovate
The bathroom is the most dangerous room in the home and where most falls occur. If you’re going to renovate any room in your home, begin with the bathroom. This one is a great example of how a room can be both beautiful and functional. The renovation took a typical 5×7 bathroom and made it three times larger while staying within the existing footprint of the home. Underutilized space was absorbed from closets and hallways and walls were removed. A 5’-0” opening, with double pocket-doors, enhances the view from the bedroom while providing easy access for mobility devices. Up-lighting mounted on each side of the mirror provides balanced lighting on the face and prevents glare from a seated position. The single lever handle at the lavatory is perfect for arthritic hands. The Ikea cabinetry easily adjusts for wheelchair use by removing the front doors and toe kick of the sink cabinet.
