Widen doors to allow mobility
All the door openings in this older home are 32” wide, with the exception of the door leading into the kitchen located next to the table. To allow complete mobility, the door was widened to 32” making the entire home accessible to the young granddaughter who uses a wheelchair. The small mobile island and light-weight chairs can be moved easily to allow for maximum access. The lack of area rugs on the wooden floor promotes maneuverability and safety, while the wooden floor provides acoustical value.
